Begninnings

In 2010, I co-founded Storymap - an art project with a simple premise. We found the most interesting stories around the city, filmed them being told where they happened, and then mapped them online. By clicking on a street you'd get an interesting story about it - personal, historical or literary. By 2013, I'd co-directed, shot and edited 130 filmed pieces. Currently the site is being re-designed but the side project City of Words is still online.

App

I oversaw the development of the Storymap App for iPhone and Android, which was praised for its smart and innovative features. It alerts you to nearby stories as you walk. If you tap in any destination it then generates a route of stories to take you there, turning any walk into a little tour.

'I loved the experience, seeing how Storymap took my words - all 155 of them - and, almost literally, built part of O'Connell with them.  It was clever and moving and, as I watched, I felt proud - and very grateful.'

Roddy Doyle

Collaborations

Storymap received funding from Dublin UNESCO City of Literature, Failte Ireland & Dublin City Arts Office. We created tailor made Storymap apps. City of Words focuses on the Dublin's literary stories - mixing poems inspired by streets, anecdotes about authors, and classic excerpts recreated in their location. Dubline focuses on the historic route between Trinity College and Kilmainham Gaol.
